Reviews and Ratings
My stay at the hotel was a mix of positives and negatives. The location was stunning, set in a beautiful former castle high on the hill overlooking the border with France. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially at 7am on Sunday, but their service was a bit offhand at times. The dining experience offered a varied and plentiful selection, but the room was small and badly lit, not living up to the €275 per night price tag.
The hotel offers fantastic split-level rooms with views over the sea to France, situated in an imposing fortress with thick walls. The interior decoration, however, is not as grand as expected. The staff is very helpful and lovely, especially with local recommendations. The location, atop a hill with excellent views, is perfect for enjoying the Basque countryside, although navigating the narrow streets may be tricky. The dining options are good but could be improved considering the hotel's standards. Overall, the historic building offers a unique experience with some room for enhancement.
I had a wonderful stay at the hotel, with excellent views over the sea to France and a comfortable room. The service was friendly and helpful, although there seemed to be a shortage of staff. The location at the top of a hill overlooking the city was spectacular. The dining experience was delightful, with a variety of buffet choices. Overall, a great place to stay with a few minor drawbacks.
Staying at this castle hotel was a dream. The rooms were split level with breathtaking views over the sea to France, reminding you of its fortress origins with thick walls. However, noise from people walking around upstairs at night was a slight disturbance. The room itself was a castle room with massive external walls, a huge bed, and a luxurious bathroom with all amenities, making it an unforgettable experience.
I had a wonderful stay at the hotel, enjoying the superb castle room with its incredible view and spacious layout. The breakfast served in this charming setting was delightful. The smallish rooms were cozy, but the exceptional features like the eight feet thick external walls and the luxurious bathroom with a bath, bidet, and two washbasins made up for it.
The room lacked the castle-like decoration we expected and felt quite bland, but it was comfortable. The service was friendly and attentive. The location, with its historical grandeur, was amazing, though lacking amenities. Dining offered a delicious variety. The facilities were decent.
